Spangle, Washington
Spangle is a small town in Spokane County, Washington. At the time of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 278 people. William Spangle, an early pioneer, was the inspiration for the name. William Spangle founded the town of Spangle in 1872. In 1879, the townsite was laid out. It was established in 1888.
About Spangle Washington
Spangle is located on US Route 195, a major north–south roadway, 18 miles south of downtown Spokane. The highway used to cross through town, but due to a re-alignment of 195, it and numerous other minor towns were bypassed. Between Spangle and Rosalia, 14 miles to the south, the original roadway remains accessible, providing an alternative route. The community is bordered by the Palouse's undulating farms.
What Spangle, Washington Is Known For
Upper Columbia Academy and Liberty High School are both located in Spangle. Spangle lies about 2 miles southeast of Upper Columbia Academy, a boarding high school connected with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Liberty High School, located 5.5 miles east of Upper Columbia Academy, is a rural school that serves the areas of Spangle, Plaza, Fairfield, Mount Hope, Latah, and Waverly. It is a "B" school with around 450 students (K-12).
